2023 WHA Scholarships – Open for Applications

Gail Margolis Professional Development Scholarship (Click Here to Apply)

WHA is proud to announce the Gail Margolis Professional Development Scholarship. Gail Margolis was a founding WHA member, a past president, advisory board member and the recipient of our very first Woman of the Year award. Gail was a mentor to many and strong advocate for continuing professional development. This new scholarship is available to any WHA member enrolled in a professional development program to support their advancement in Health Administration.

Eligibility Criteria

  • Currently enrolled in a professional development program that will support their advancement in Health Administration
  • Evidence of commitment to a career in health administration and to advancing the goals of WHA
  • Current members of WHA Board of Directors are not eligible
  • Scholarship awards limited to one award per lifetime
  • Selection based on eligibility and merit at the sole discretion of the WHA Board of Directors

Selection Procedures

  • WHA Board determines dollar amount and number of awards based on availability of WHA funds
  • Scholarship Committee notifies members of available award(s) and publicizes Scholarship Program in WHA Digest email, and posts details on WHA website
  • Interested members submit applications to WHA
  • Final selection made by WHA Board based upon recommendation of Scholarship Committee
  • Scholarship Committee notifies recipient(s) and award(s) is/are made
  • In addition to the monetary award, an additional one-year WHA membership is given to each scholarship recipient

Application Requirements

  • Personal Information
  • One letter of reference from an individual who can evaluate your leadership skills and commitment to a career in health administration
  • Resume or curriculum vitae, including volunteer work, internships, and activities related to your career goal
  • A 250 word essay outlining your career goals and how participation in the program you are planning to attend will support those goals, the importance of this award as it relates to your ability to participate in the program, notable accomplishments or experiences that reflect your best abilities and skills that are relevant to your career goals
  • In 150 words or less, explain, how your goals align with WHA’s purpose and objectives, and how you plan to be active in WHA as our Professional Development Scholarship Recipient.

 

Graduate Student Scholarship (Click Here to Apply)

Eligibility Criteria

  • Full-time graduate or professional degree student
  • Currently enrolled in a graduate or professional degree program at an accredited California college or university
  • Evidence of commitment to a career in health administration and to advancing the goals of WHA
  • Current members of WHA Board of Directors are not eligible
  • Scholarship awards limited to one award per lifetime
  • Selection based based on eligibility and merit at the sole discretion of the WHA Board of Directors

Selection Procedures

  • WHA Board determines dollar amount and number of awards based on availability of WHA funds
  • Scholarship Committee notifies schools of available award(s) and publicizes Scholarship Program in WHA Digest email, and posts details on WHA website
  • Schools post notice of Scholarship Program and distribute applications
  • Interested students submit applications to WHA
  • Final selection made by WHA Board based upon recommendation of Scholarship Committee
  • Scholarship Committee notifies recipient(s) and award(s) is/are made
  • In addition to the monetary award, a one-year WHA student membership is given to each scholarship recipient

  • Academic transcript (unofficial or official)
  • A 250 word essay outlining your career goals, how this award will help you attain those goals, notable accomplishments or experiences that reflect your best abilities and skills that are relevant to your career goals
  • In 150 words or less, explain how your goals align with WHA’s purpose and objectives, and how you plan to be active in WHA as our Scholarship Recipient.
